Yamini Krishnamurthy Passes Away: Famous Bharatanatyam artist Yamini Krishnamurthy is no more among us. She died on Saturday, August 3 at the age of 83. She breathed her last at Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Yamini Krishnamurthy was suffering from age-related diseases. She was being treated under the supervision of a team headed by Dr. Sunil Modi. However, Yamini could not be saved.

Yamini Krishnamurthy’s manager gave the information

The news of Yamini Krishnamurthy’s death was shared by her manager and secretary Ganesh. Krishnamurthy’s manager and secretary Ganesh told ‘PTI Bhasha’ that, ‘She was suffering from age-related problems and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the last seven months’.

No information about ‘last rites’

Yamini Krishnamurthy’s body will now be kept for darshan at her institute ‘Yamini School of Dance’. Her body will be brought to her institute at 9 am on Sunday. People will be able to have their last darshan here. However, it is not known when Yamini Krishnamurthy’s last rites will be performed.

Yamini was born in 1940

Yamini was born on 20 December 1940 in Madanapalle in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. While Yamini grew up in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. Yamini made her debut in Bharatnatyam when she was just 17 years old. It is worth noting that she was India’s most popular Bharatnatyam dancer.

Yamini used to run her own dance academy

Yamini Krishnamurthy’s dance academy ‘Yamini School of Dance’ is in Delhi. Under this academy, she used to train people in Bharatnatyam. Let us tell you that Yamini has two sisters in her family.

Honoured with three highest civilian awards of the country

Yamini Krishnamurthy was awarded the country’s three highest civilian awards for her outstanding contribution in the field of dance. She was awarded Padma Shri (the country’s fourth highest civilian award) in 1968, Padma Bhushan (the country’s third highest civilian award) in 2001 and the country’s second highest civilian award ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in 2016.
