Wayanad Landslides: Search and rescue operation has been resumed in Mundakkai and Choorlamala in Wayanad, Kerala. So far 151 people have died due to being buried under the debris of the landslide in Wayanad. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain here today i.e. on 31st July. Despite this, the soldiers engaged in the search operation are constantly trying to save the lives buried under the debris by putting their lives at stake.

Landslides destroyed settlements and killed at least 151 people, injured nearly 200 and many are missing. Bad weather forced authorities to halt rescue operations late Tuesday night. Rescue efforts were expected to be concentrated around Mundakkayi on Wednesday. The village remained completely cut off for most of Tuesday. Many people are still feared trapped under debris in Mundakkayi, while more rain is expected in Wayanad on Wednesday, making the mission challenging.

Essential Services Disrupted

The India Metrological Department has issued an orange alert, related to bad weather likely to disrupt transport and essential services, in Wayanad and four other districts. Schools have been closed in 12 of Kerala’s 14 districts. Health Minister Veena George was scheduled to reach Wayanad on Wednesday to monitor facilities at four government and private hospitals where most of the injured have been admitted. Five other state ministers are on the spot and monitoring rescue operations.
