New Delhi. Atal Bihari Vajpayee death anniversary: Today is the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute at his memorial ‘Sadaiv Atal’.
Jagdeep Dhankhar and Rajnath Singh also paid tribute
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister JP Nadda also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary.
Vajpayee’s adopted daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya also attended the prayer meeting at the former prime minister’s samadhi ‘Sadaiv Atal’. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar was also present at the ‘Sadaiv Atal’ memorial to pay tribute to former PM Vajpayee. “Tributes to former Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna, our source of inspiration, revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji on his death anniversary,” the BJP’s official handle posted on Twitter.
Shah said- Atal ji strengthened the country
Paying tribute to former PM Vajpayee, Union Minister Amit Shah said that as Prime Minister, he strengthened the country strategically and economically. Whenever there will be talk of political purity, loyalty towards national interest and steadfastness towards principles in the country, Atal ji will be remembered. On one hand, he popularized the ideology of national interest through the establishment of BJP, while as Prime Minister he strengthened the country strategically and economically. Shah tweeted, “I pay my heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna awardee Atal ji on his death anniversary.”
Vajpayee was born in Gwalior
Born in Gwalior in 1924, Vajpayee was the face of the BJP for decades and was the first non-Congress prime minister to complete his term. Vajpayee was the prime minister of India from 16 May 1996 to 1 June 1996 and again from 19 March 1998 to 22 May 2004.
He also served as India’s Minister of External Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Morarji Desai from 1977 to 1979. He died on 16 August 2018 at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.
