IPS officers

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended three senior IPS officers in connection with the illegal detention and threats to Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethani, who had accused the police of wrongly arresting and imprisoning her. The suspended officers include former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada police commissioner Kranti Rana Tata and former Vijayawada deputy commissioner Vishal Gunni. They were suspended under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Jethani had filed a complaint with the NTR district police commissioner in the first week of August, alleging that the three officers acted in haste after YSRCP leader and filmmaker KV Vidyasagar Rao levelled allegations of forgery and extortion against him.

In his complaint, Jethani alleged that the police arrested him and his father and brought them to Vijayawada, where they were detained for three days before being produced in court. The court later granted them bail. He alleged that the police officers mentally harassed both of them.

Some more policemen may be in trouble

Andhra Pradesh DGP had ordered an inquiry into the matter after receiving the complaint. Now, based on the DGP’s report, action has been taken against three IPS officers. DGP has already suspended ACP Hanumanth Rao and Ibrahimpatnam CI Satyanarayana. Some other policemen are also likely to be suspended in this case.

Government took action on DGP’s report

As per the complaint given by actress Kadambari Jethani, SIT was formed under the leadership of Vijayawada CP ACP Shravanti Roy. SIT questioned the actress, her parents and others. Their statements were recorded. Later a preliminary report on the case was prepared and submitted to the DGP. DGP submitted the report to the government. After examining the report, the government suspended the IPS officers.

The state government said in the order that former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata failed as the officer supervising the investigation. It has been found that former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu has misused his position in this case. According to the investigation report, IPS officers Kranti Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni allegedly arrested the actress on the instructions of former intelligence chief Anjaneyulu even before producer Vidyasagar Rao lodged a formal police complaint.

The actress was arrested on February 2

The investigation report states that acting on verbal instructions, the team led by Vishal Gunni went to Mumbai and arrested the actress on February 2, 2024 without any written order or sufficient evidence. The investigation found that the police team had gone to Mumbai without prior information to the DGP. It was also suspected that the police team that went to Mumbai did not even submit the TA and DA bills related to the trip.
