The first edition of the Constitution of India, which is considered an important historical document of a country, was auctioned on Tuesday (30 July) for Rs 48 lakh. This edition, prepared in the year 1950, includes the signatures of the makers of the Constitution, calligraphy written by Prem Bihari Narayan Raizada and illustrations made by Nandlal Bose.

Let us tell you that important items related to India’s heritage were displayed in the auction conducted by Saffronart on Tuesday (30 July). Many documents were auctioned in which the Constitution became a major attraction in this auction.

This copy of the Constitution was kept safely in the Parliament for years. It was kept safe in a special way. Many other old things were also sold in the auction held on Tuesday. It took about six months to make this copy of the Constitution. At the same time, it took four years to make this Constitution. The person who made this copy got 4000 rupees. After this, Nandlal Bose made pictures in it. He got 21,000 rupees for this work.

Painted signatures of the framers on a copy of the Constitution

The first copy of the Constitution has the painted signatures of the makers of the Constitution. It also includes calligraphy by Prem Bihari Narayan Raizada and painting by renowned modern artist Nandlal Bose. The first copy of the Constitution was sold in a three-day online auction from 24 to 26 July. This auction also includes centuries-old objects of Indian history, art, literature and photography.

Regarding this auction, Safranart co-founder Minal Vazirani said that each part holds great historical importance as a document of India’s heritage. The blueprint of the Constitution prepared by Ambedkar has the handprints of 284 members of the Constituent Assembly of 1946, including the Hindi signature of writer Kamala Chaudhary and the English signature of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
