New Delhi: The Kolkata rape-murder case will be heard in the country’s top court today . A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will hear the case. Doctors across the country are pinning their hopes on the Supreme Court’s hearing because doctors have been protesting nationwide for the past several days. They are not satisfied with the government’s assurances. In such a situation, the Supreme Court’s decision will be important.
According to the information, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. It is being told that the matter has been placed at the top of the cause list for hearing at 10:30 am on Tuesday. Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has reached Delhi to discuss the issue with President Draupadi Murmu and national leaders.
Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan at Raj Bhavan on Monday, the governor said, “Democracy is declining in West Bengal. This cannot go on. Today we have to take a pledge to protect our daughters and sisters.” The trainee doctor’s parents criticised the alleged attempts to silence the protesters and said they were disappointed with the way West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had handled the rape-murder case.
On the 10th day of the doctors’ strike, health services were affected across the country. In view of the demand to ensure the safety of doctors, the Union Health Ministry has approved a 25 percent increase in security deployment in central hospitals. At the same time, the CBI is investigating the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. However, no major disclosure has been made by the CBI in this case so far.
