And now two decades later, Ahan Shetty is stepping into his father ‘s shoes, carrying forward the legacy in a film that is deeply embedded in the collective memory of Indian cinema lovers.
The announcement video depicts the handing over of the legacy from father to son. It shows a collection of Suniel Shetty’s pictures from Border, with a heartwarming voiceover by Ahan Shetty. Ahan also took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the makers for giving him this opportunity.
He wrote, “Border is more than a film — it’s a legacy, an emotion and a dream come true. Ironically, that’s how life works — my journey with Border began 29 years ago when my mom visited dad on set while she was pregnant with me. I grew up listening to OP Dutta’s great stories, holding JP Uncle’s hand and sitting next to @nidhiduttaofficial. I never realized how much those moments would have shaped my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces. Now to be a part of Border 2 is a huge honour. JP Uncle, thank you for holding my hand, I hope I make you very, very proud. Nidhi, your hard work made this dream come alive, thank you for being who you are and what you do.” Ahaan also has the honour of sharing screen space with Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan in the film.
He said, “Bhushan sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity, I will be forever grateful to you. @anurag_singh_films sir, I am excited to work under your guidance. Working with @iamsunnydeol sir is a blessing, and I can’t wait to share the screen with @varundvn, who I look up to as an elder brother. As a huge fan of @diljitdosanjh, it’s unreal to share the screen with him.” Bhushan Kumar and JP Dutta’s much-awaited ‘Border 2’ will release in January 2026. Anurag Singh has been roped in to direct the sequel.
