Former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against Rahul Gandhi. In this petition, he has asked the Home Ministry to issue instructions to cancel the Indian citizenship of the Congress leader. The Delhi High Court may hear this next week.
Dr. Subramanian Swamy says that he had complained to the Home Ministry about Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship five years ago. But till now the Home Ministry has not given any clear decision or taken any action in this matter.
Swamy has appealed to the court to summon a status report from the Home Ministry on the action taken so far. Apart from this, the central government refused to share any information in response to the information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) in the case of Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship. The ministry said that the information cannot be disclosed under Section 8 (1) (h) and (j) of the RTI Act as it may hamper the investigation process.
Let us tell you that a petition was filed in the Supreme Court years ago raising questions on Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship. In this petition, it was demanded that the Home Ministry should be directed to conduct a quick investigation on Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship matter. The bench led by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had rejected this petition.
Justice Gogoi had said that if Rahul Gandhi is mentioned as a British citizen in a company’s form, it does not mean that he is actually a British citizen. Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also reacted to this controversy. She said that the whole country knows that Rahul Gandhi was born in India and is an Indian citizen.
