New Delhi: The search for absconding criminals in the GTB Hospital murder case is continuing. Now the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Hashim Baba gang member and mastermind of the shooting, Sameer alias Baba (22) and Rahul Singh alias Rahul Khatik (33) from Rishikesh. Along with this, the police has arrested two other notorious criminals from Mayur Vihar area.
According to DCP Pratiksha Godara of Special Cell New Delhi Range, the accused Sameer alias Baba and his three other accomplices who had hatched the entire conspiracy of murdering a patient in GTB Hospital have been arrested. Sameer has studied till ninth class. He had left his studies due to financial constraints and started working with his father. In the year 2019, he had a fight with a local criminal, due to which the enmity increased.
After this, Sameer came in contact with criminal elements and started committing crimes. On June 13, 2024, accused Sameer and 5 other members of the gang laid a trap to eliminate their rival Waseem Asmat. At that time, Waseem Asmat was shot at in the Welcome area. After being injured, he was admitted to GTB Hospital. He made a complete plan to kill Waseem, who had survived this attack, again in GTB Hospital.
According to the information, this time the accused Sameer did not go to the hospital because he thought that Wasim Asmat or his brother would recognize him. Then he sent his companions to GTB Hospital to kill Wasim. But due to there being two rooms in the same ward, the accused’s companions mistakenly killed an innocent patient. The deceased was identified as Riyazuddin, Khajuri Khas. After this attack, the police was searching for Sameer and his companions.
According to DCP Pratiksha Godara, initially it was found that Rahul Singh alias Rahul Khatik and Sameer were constantly changing their hideouts to avoid arrest. Further, on the basis of technical surveillance and informers, the movement of both of them was found near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. The police chased the accused and caught them on 19 July. After interrogating both the accused, two other absconding accused Mukesh alias Sachin alias Golu and Suhail alias Tauheed alias Shooter were caught from Mayur Vihar on the night of 20 July. Many cases are registered against all these accused in different police stations of Delhi.
