Railway Concession For Senior Citizen: In the monsoon session of the 18th Lok Sabha, the issue of concession in rail fares given to senior citizens in the past was raised in the House. During this, independent MP from Bihar’s Purnia seat Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav and Trinamool Congress MP June Malia have made a big demand from the Center on Wednesday (31 July). In their demand, they have appealed to the central government to restore the system of concession in rail fares for senior citizens.
Pappu Yadav also said that the concession given to journalists along with the elderly should be restored. He said that separate toilets should be arranged for women in trains and there is a need to increase the number of general coaches in trains. Whereas, Trinamool Congress MP June Malia said, “Before Covid, senior citizens used to get 50 percent discount in railway fare. It was suspended, but the government does not seem to have any intention of restoring it.
Senior citizens need concession in railway fares- TMC MP
TMC MP June Malia further said that there is a need to restore the concession in railway fares for senior citizens. Along with this, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Joba Manjhi said that a high level committee should be formed to investigate the railway accident that took place a few days ago in Jharkhand.
Soon the number of general coaches in trains will increase- BJP
On the other hand, Rajesh Mishra of BJP said that there have been major improvements in the condition of railways under the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed hope that the number of general coaches in trains will be increased soon. Along with this, Rajkumar Sangwan of Rashtriya Lok Dal said that many corrective steps have been taken in this government for rail safety, cleanliness, use of technology and many other things. Sangwan said that the expansion of rail services in Uttar Pradesh has happened rapidly.
Government needs to pay attention towards railway safety
During this, Congress MP Mallu Ravi also participated in the discussion and expressed the need for the government to pay attention towards railway security. IUML MP ET Mohammed Basheer expressed the need for immediate improvement in the reservation system related to the recruitment of people from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in railway jobs.
Demand for laying a new railway line till Amravati
Meanwhile, BJP’s Anurag Sharma said that the role of railways is important in Prime Minister Modi’s goal of making India developed by 2047. Jansena Party MP Balasori Vallabhneni demanded all necessary approvals for laying a new railway line to Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh. Whereas, Shiv Sena MP Dhairyasheel Sambhajirave Mane praised the government for the excellent work towards the development of railways. He demanded the reopening of various small stations closed during the Covid pandemic in his area.
Demanded to make a better policy related to railway lands
Shiv Sena (UBT) member Arvind Ganpat Sawant demanded a strong policy related to railway lands in the state. He stressed on proper rehabilitation of the concerned family in case of demolition of any house. Apart from this, Sunil Tatkare Dattatreya of Nationalist Congress Party, Vijay Dubey of BJP and Rajmohan Unnithan of Congress also participated in the discussion.
