Chandigarh: Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Mr. Aman Arora said that in order to reduce dependence on conventional fuel and the burden of power subsidy, besides making Punjab a leading state in the production of clean energy, the state government is considering setting up 66 solar power plants of 4 MW capacity each (total 264 MW capacity).
Shri Aman Arora, accompanied by Shri Harbhajan Singh ETO, Minister for Power, chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials of New & Renewable Energy Sources and Power Department to discuss this prestigious project.
Mr. Aman Arora said that on completion of this project, it is expected that around 390 million units of electricity will be generated annually. With the implementation of feeder level solarization under this project, annual savings of around Rs 136 crore are expected.
He said that this step will bring an investment of about Rs 1,056 crore in the state, which will create employment opportunities for people engaged in developing skills in the non-conventional energy sector. Along with this, along with increasing agricultural production, the rural economy of the state will also get a boost.
Vice-Chairperson Punjab Development Commission Seema Bansal, Secretary Power Department Mr. Rahul Tiwari, Secretary New and Renewable Energy Sources Department Mr. Ravi Bhagat, Chairman-cum-Managing Director POWERCOM Engineer Baldev Singh Sran, Member Punjab Development Commission Mr. Shaukat Roy, Director PEDA Mr. M.P. Singh and other senior officers of both the departments were present in the meeting.
