Powercom Contract Workers to Hold Protest against Privatisation
Mohali, February 18, 2025: The Powercom Contract Workers Union has announced a continuous protest against the Punjab Government, starting from February 20, 2025, at Mohali. The union has been demanding the regularization of contract workers, minimum wages, and pension benefits.
According to Jagmohan Singh, Secretary of the Powercom Contract Workers Union, the Punjab Government has been evading meetings with the union, despite assurances. The government had promised to address the workers’ demands in a meeting on February 19, 2025, but postponed it, sparking outrage among the workers.

The union has accused the government of betraying the workers and ignoring their legitimate demands. As a result, the workers will hold a protest at Mohali, accompanied by their families and children. The union has also decided to participate in a state-level rally on March 11, 2025, at Khanna, under the banner of the Punjab Contract Workers’ Struggle Front.
The protest is being led by Rajinder Pradhan, Amerik Singh Karala, Inderpal Singh, Mosim Khan, Lakhwinder Singh, and Parvinder Singh, among others. The workers are determined to fight for their rights and hold the government accountable for its promises.
