New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra has won a silver medal for India in the Paris Olympics-2024. Neeraj finished second in the javelin throw final played on Thursday night. Neeraj had won the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics-2020.
There were expectations of gold from him in Paris too, but he missed it and had to settle for the silver medal. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 meters. Nadeem won the gold with an Olympic record. Neeraj won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters.
With this, Neeraj has become the fourth Indian player to win two Olympic medals. Before him, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker had achieved this feat. The whole country expected Neeraj to win India’s first gold medal in the Paris Olympics, but despite trying his best, he failed in doing so.
Comeback after a bad start
Neeraj won this medal when his first attempt failed. He committed a foul in the first attempt. Meanwhile, Nadeem threw a strong throw and secured the first position. Neeraj threw a throw of 89.45 in the second attempt and came in second place. Neeraj was clearly under pressure and nervousness to get ahead of Nadeem’s throw. That is why he kept committing foul after foul.
Neeraj was successful in only one attempt. He fouled in the remaining five. Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third with a throw of 88.54 and managed to win the bronze medal.
created history
Neeraj certainly could not win the gold medal but he still managed to make his name in history. Neeraj has become the first Indian player to win two Olympic medals in track and field after independence. At the same time, he has also become the fourth player to win silver for India in an individual event.
