Men’s Rights Organization Demands Justice for Atul Subhash, Calls for Establishment of Men’s Commission
Chandigarh, December 13, 2024: Save Indian Family (SIF), an organization advocating for men’s rights, organized a candle march at the Sector 17 Plaza today, demanding justice for Atul Subhash, a promising engineer who lost his life due to legal harassment, extortion through laws, and false accusations.
Rohit Dogra, President of SIF, addressed the gathering and emphasized that Atul did not commit suicide, but rather, the system was responsible for his death. Dogra demanded a thorough investigation into Atul’s case to hold those accountable and ensure strict punishment for the culprits.
Dogra also highlighted the need for a Men’s Commission and a Ministry for Men’s Welfare, akin to the National Commission for Women and the Ministry of Women and Child Development. He pointed out that despite over 50 laws existing for women’s safety, more than 10,000 NGOs working for women, and crores of rupees allocated for women’s welfare, there is no provision for men, who make up half the population.
According to NCRB data for 2022, the number of suicides committed by men annually stands at 1,22,724, compared to 48,172 for women. Dogra called for the establishment of suicide prevention helplines in every district, given the rising suicide rates among men.
He also urged amendments to gender-biased laws such as the Domestic Violence Act, Sexual Harassment Laws, Section 498A, Rape Laws, etc., to make them gender-neutral. Dogra further advocated for repealing laws prone to misuse, such as Section 498A, and introducing strict provisions to penalize those who misuse such laws.
SIF-Chandigarh activists participating in today’s protest included Ankur Sharma, Gaurav Raheja, Mahesh Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, Mohit Arora, Ravinder Singh, Jasjot Singh, Amandeep Singh, Hardeep Kumar, Naveen Kumar, Rohit Kumar, and others.
