Chandigarh: An important meeting was held with senior officials of the Education Department for the development of pre-primary children under the chairmanship of Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur, in which various issues related to the department were discussed in detail.
During the meeting, Dr Baljit Kaur heard representatives of various unions of Anganwadi workers. Their main demands included giving Anganwadi workers the status of pre-nursery teachers and sending children aged 3 to 6 years, who were shifted to government primary schools in 2017, back to Anganwadi centres.
The Minister of Social Security and Women and Child Development discussed the demands of the Anganwadi Unions in detail with the senior officials of the Education Department and assured the union members that every possible effort would be made to meet their every genuine demand.
Further, the Minister said that the age of 0-6 years is very crucial for every child when they need physical, emotional, psychological and social support the most as it lays the foundation of their future. Hence, he directed the officers of the department to constitute committees of District Education Officer (Primary) and District Programme Officers headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) at the district level. This committee will visit the Anganwadi Centres located in their district and submit a report within a week regarding the basic requirements.
The Cabinet Minister, while reiterating the commitment of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, said that while his government is striving for the welfare of every section, it is also continuously working for the development of children.
On this occasion, Special Principal Secretary of Social Security, Women and Child Development Raji P. Srivastava, Managing Secretary of School Education Mr. Kamal Kishore Yadav, Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Shena Agarwal and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
