Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal President and Union Minister of State with Independent Charge Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday registered his protest against the nameplate decision. Taking a jibe at the Yogi government’s decision, he said, should we get our names written on our kurtas too? A Kanwar Yatra yatris do not accept service at any shop based on caste and religion. This issue should not be linked to religion.
Jayant Chaudhary said that I think this decision has not been taken after careful consideration. Now that the decision has been taken, the UP government is sticking to it. Sometimes this happens in the government. The government should withdraw the decision. Jayant Chaudhary said that it is not right for all the establishments to write their names. After all, what will McDonald’s write? There is a Burger King shop in Khatauli, so what will it write?
He said that either the government should take back the decision or the administration should not force it. Shopkeepers who want to put up nameplates of their own free will, can do so. However, the administrative officials are not forcing shopkeepers anywhere. As far as veg and non-veg are concerned, there is sense in it. If someone is a vegetarian, then it should be certified to him that the food he is eating is vegetarian.
But, can we impose a ban on a non-vegetarian person cooking or serving vegetarian food? Muslims are vegetarian and Hindus are meat eaters too. Where will we put nameplates? Now in UP, nameplates are being put up even on tyre and puncture shops. Will we now start writing on kurtas as well that with whom to shake hands and whom to hug?
Muzaffarnagar police had issued an order to voluntarily write the name of the owners on all the food shops on the Kanwar Yatra route. After this, the employment of small workers working at these places got affected. They were temporarily removed. Excess employees were temporarily fired in many restaurants owned by people of the Muslim community. Hindu restaurant owners also temporarily removed Muslim employees at least for the duration of the Kanwar Yatra.
