Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda has talked about sending wrestler Vinesh Phogat to Rajya Sabha. He said that if Congress had the full number of MLAs, the party would definitely have sent Vinesh to Rajya Sabha. Because Vinesh Phogat has brought glory to the country in sports. Her performance in this Olympics was very impressive. She defeated the best wrestlers from all over the world. In the very first match, she defeated a wrestler from Japan who was undefeated till now. If she had not been disqualified, Vinesh would definitely have brought a gold medal for the country. Therefore, she should be given the same reward, respect and position as a gold medal winner by the state government. The Congress party feels that Vinesh Phogat should be sent to Rajya Sabha. This will boost the morale of all the players and women and will send a positive message across the country.
Manu Bhaker, who won two Olympic medals in shooting, and her parents also reached to meet Bhupendra Singh Hooda today. Hooda congratulated and blessed Manu Bhaker. MP Deepender Singh Hooda was also present on this occasion. He also congratulated and wished Manu Bhaker. Hooda said that Manu Bhaker has achieved a big achievement at a young age. She has not only brought pride to her parents, village and state, but also to the entire country.
Responding to the questions of journalists at his residence, he said that disqualifying the country’s daughter and Haryana’s pride Vinesh Phogat in the Paris Olympics is a very unfortunate decision, there is a suspicion that there is a conspiracy in it. The Indian Olympic Association should challenge the decision to disqualify her and it should be investigated.
Hooda said that there should be no shortage of any kind in giving rewards and honor to the players. Because sports is the most powerful medium to give proper direction to the youth power. That is why the sports policy of ‘bring medals, get posts’ was made during the Congress tenure. In this, provision was made for the appointment of sportspersons on high posts like DSP. The Congress government had given appointments to more than 750 sportspersons in government departments under the sports policy. Along with this, a provision of three percent quota in jobs was made for sportspersons. Congress had also started giving the highest cash prize money of up to Rs 5 crore to sportspersons in the country. This policy was appreciated not only in the whole country but all over the world.
Today, BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Manipur are also following that policy of Congress. But it is unfortunate that the BJP government of Haryana has abolished this policy and taken away the right of players to be appointed to posts like Inspector and DSP. This government has also almost abolished the 3 percent quota of players in jobs. But if the Congress government is formed in the state, the ‘bring a medal, get a post’ policy will be implemented again. Promoting sports and players at every level from school competitions to Olympics will be the priority of the Congress government.
