Chandigarh. President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab. Now Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed as the Governor in his place.

He is the former Home Minister of the Rajasthan Government. He is one of the senior leaders of BJP in Rajasthan and a member of the Central Working Committee of the party. He is a resident of Udaipur and has been a member of the 9th Lok Sabha from there. Earlier he has been the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in the Rajasthan Government.
Gulab Chand Kataria (born 13 October 1944) is an Indian politician who is serving as the 31st Governor of Assam since 22 February 2023. He was a minister in the Rajasthan Government from 2013 to 2018, 2003 to 2008 and 1993 to 1998. He is a senior BJP leader in Rajasthan and also a member of the party’s Central Working Committee. He is from Udaipur and has represented it in the 9th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament from Udaipur from 1989 to 1991. He was booked by the CBI in the Sheikh encounter killing during the rule of the Congress government at the centre, but the court found him not guilty. He was also the Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2023, 2013 to 2013 and 2002 to 2003. He was the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Rajasthan State Unit from 1999 to 2000. He was also a member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 2003 to 2023 and from Udaipur from 1977 to 1986 and from Badi Sadari from 1993 to 2003.
