The central government has lifted the 58-year-old “ban” on the participation of government employees in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Now government employees will be able to participate in the activities of RSS. The order said, “The above instructions have been reviewed and it has been decided to remove the mention of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the relevant office memorandums of 30 November 1966, 25 July 1970 and 28 October 1980.”

Congress registers protest

On the other hand, Congress has strongly opposed this decision of the Central Government. Congress on Sunday strongly criticized the decision issued by the Central Government, in which the 6-decade-old ban on participating in the activities of RSS has been lifted.

Jairam Ramesh posted on X

Congress General Secretary (Communication) Jairam Ramesh wrote in a post on X that, ‘Sardar Patel banned RSS after Gandhiji’s assassination in February 1948. After this, the ban was lifted on the assurance of good conduct. Even after this, RSS never hoisted the tricolor in Nagpur. In 1966, a ban was imposed on government employees participating in RSS activities – and it was the right decision too. This is the official order issued in 1966 to impose the ban. After 4 June 2024, the relationship between the self-proclaimed non-biological Prime Minister and RSS has soured. On 9 July 2024, the 58-year ban was lifted which was in place even during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister. I believe that bureaucracy can now come in shorts as well.

Pawan Khera also attacked

Meanwhile, another Congress leader and former Union Minister Pawan Khera also attacked the Center. Expressing disappointment on social media platform X, he said, “58 years ago, the central government banned government employees from participating in RSS activities, but now the Modi government has overturned that order.”
