Ganesh Visarjan 2024:  The scene of Bappa’s farewell is very captivating. On Ganesh Visarjan, devotees bid farewell to Ganpati by dancing and singing and immerse his idol in holy rivers. While leaving, Lord Ganesha also fulfills all the wishes of his devotees. But have you ever tried to know why Ganpati Visarjan is done. Why is the idol of Ganpati ji immersed in water after worshiping for ten days. Let us tell you about this in detail today.

According to mythological beliefs, Shri Ved Vyas narrated the Mahabharata story to Shri Ganesh for ten consecutive days starting from Ganesh Chaturthi. After ten days, when Ved Vyas opened his eyes, he found that after ten days of hard work, Ganesh ji’s temperature had increased a lot. In such a situation, Ved Vyas immediately took Ganesh ji to a nearby lake and made him take a bath with cold water. It is said that this is why Ganesh is installed and cooled on Chaturdashi.

Ganesh Chaturdashi and the glory of immersion

Ganeshotsav begins from the Chaturthi date of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha. Lord Ganesha is worshipped till Chaturdashi date. The idol of Shri Ganesha is installed on Chaturthi date and immersed on Chaturdashi date. These nine days are called Ganesh Navratri. It is believed that by immersing the idol, the Lord again reaches Mount Kailash. The glory of immersion is more than installation. Infinite auspicious results can be obtained on this day. Therefore, this day is also called Anant Chaturdashi.
