Senthil Balaji

The Supreme Court has granted conditional bail to former Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji, who was arrested in the cash bribe scam for a job, and ordered his release. Senthil Balaji was arrested by the ED on June 14 last year on charges of money laundering.

He is accused of money laundering in connection with the cash bribe scam for jobs when he was the Transport Minister in the AIADMK government. The Madras High Court had rejected Balaji’s bail plea, while the lower court has also rejected his bail petitions thrice.

The High Court had rejected the bail plea and said that if he is released on bail in such a case, it will send a wrong message. The ED had strongly opposed Balaji’s bail plea in the Supreme Court.

3,000 page charge sheet against Balaji

Balaji was arrested by the ED in June 2023 in a money laundering case related to the job for cash scam. He was the Transport Minister at that time. Soon after his arrest, he underwent bypass surgery at a private hospital. Later, the ED took him into custody for questioning and thereafter he was sent to judicial custody. His remand was extended from time to time. On August 12, the ED filed a 3,000-page chargesheet against Balaji.
