Renowned missile scientist Dr. Ram Narayan Agarwal has passed away at the age of 84. He is known as the father of Agni missiles. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said that scientist Ram Narayan Agarwal died in Hyderabad. 

Ram Narayan Agarwal was known as ‘Agni Man’

Dr. Ram Narayan Agarwal played an important role in the long-range ballistic missile program in the country. He was the first program director of Agni missiles. Because of this, he is also known as ‘Agni Man’. Agni, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program had included India in the group of countries like America, Russia, China, France, Britain, Israel and North Korea. In May 1989, as the program director, Dr. Agarwal and his team successfully flight tested the Agni missile. It was a medium-range ballistic missile, which was launched from the test range of Balasore off the coast of Odisha. From the year 1983 to the year 2005, Dr. Agarwal worked as the program director of Agni Mission. After this he retired as the Director of Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL).

DRDO scientists expressed grief

Senior, current and former DRDO scientists condoled the death of Dr Agarwal. Former DRDO chief and missile scientist Dr G Satish Reddy said that the country has lost a great personality. He said that Dr Agarwal played an important role in the development of long-range missiles in the country.
