Rangrezz Festival at Chitkara University Rajpura
Chandigarh, December 16, 2024: Chitkara University, Punjab, hosted the grand National Theatre Festival, Rangrezz 2024, with the theme “Zikr – The Language of Memories, The Stage of Expressions.” The festival celebrated the power of theatre to reflect human conditions, creativity, talent, and cultural diversity.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, and Subodh Podder, renowned advertising and film director. A prestigious panel of judges, including Sweetie Rohel, Vanish Bharadwaj, and Chakresh Kumar, adjudged the performances.
Participants from various regions, including Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, showcased their talents, competing for a prize money of ₹6 lakh. The festival featured vibrant performances, including proscenium plays, street plays, monologues, fringe theatre, and open mic sessions. The event also featured soulful singing by Prabh Gill and DJ Ali Merchant’s energetic beats.
The winners of the festival were:
– Street Play Category: Rajdhani College, New Delhi (1st), Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, New Delhi (2nd), and Aziz Arts, Punjab (3rd).
– Stage Play Category: Punjab University, Chandigarh (1st), Halakara Theatre Group, Kurukshetra, Haryana (2nd), and Prayas Theatre Group, Kaithal, Haryana (3rd).
– Monologue Category: Prerana Goyal, New Delhi (1st), Manjinder Singh, Mohali, Punjab (2nd), and Ananya Sharma, Noida (3rd).
– Fringe Theatre Category: Post Graduate Government College, Chandigarh (1st), Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi (2nd), and GGDSD College, Chandigarh (3rd).
– Open Mic Winners: Teerth Darji (GLS University, Ahmedabad), Ayush Sharma (Graphic Era University, Dehradun), and Kunwardeep Singh, Krishan Dev, and Sahjbeer Singh (Chitkara University, Punjab).
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, in her closing remarks, emphasized that Rangrezz 2024 has become a national celebration, and in the coming years, it will undoubtedly gain international recognition. The festival has proven to be a powerful medium for showcasing the rich diversity of Indian culture and human experiences.
