Martin was born on August 11, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York City. He attended New York University, where he played basketball for the NYU Violets. After graduating from NYU, Martin began his acting career in television commercials.

Martin’s first major acting role came in 1992, when he starred in the film “White Men Can’t Jump” alongside Wesley Snipes. He has since appeared in numerous films, including “Above the Rim” (1994), “The Inkwell” (1994), “The Faculty” (1998), “Ride or Die” (2003), and “The Seat Filler” (2004).
Martin is also known for his role as Robert James on the UPN/CW sitcom “All of Us” (2003-2007). He also starred as Detective Ben Baines on the FOX police-procedural series “L.A.’s Finest” (2019).
