Fatehabad: Congress National Secretary Dr. Vineet Punia said that it is very unfortunate that Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified on technical grounds in the Olympics. He said that a great injustice has been done to the daughter of the country. The Central Government and the Indian Olympic Association should strongly challenge this wrong decision and provide justice to the daughter of the country.
In a statement issued here, Dr. Vineet Punia said that first the then President of Wrestling Association and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh harassed the world champion daughter of the country. Then atrocities took place at Jantar Mantar. But Vinesh Phogat still never lost courage, bravery and patience. Haryana’s daughter Vinesh Phogat, who made the whole country proud, fought all the challenges, fought the system and defeated the world’s undefeated wrestler and two champion wrestlers in the Olympics on the strength of her hard work and dedication. But today after all those matches, Vinesh Phogat was declared ineligible.
Dr. Punia said that many big questions are being raised about the disqualification of the country’s capable daughter in this manner. She was not overweight when she reached the final match, but depriving her of her silver medal after winning the semi-finals is sheer injustice to her. It seems that the Indian Olympic Association and Wrestling Association have completely failed in discharging their responsibilities properly. There is a smell of a big conspiracy in this whole matter.
Dr. Punia said that in this difficult time, all the countrymen are standing with Vinesh Phogat. Of course, Phogat has been declared ineligible through a conspiracy, but for the country, she is an Olympic gold medal winner.
Dr. Punia said that what Phogat must be going through is extremely horrific and sad. The government should make all efforts to appeal to the International Olympic Committee and get justice for the country’s daughter.
