Who Is Jhansi Reddy?
Reddy, noted for her influence in the Telangana Congress, is the aunty of Palakurti MLA Yashaswini Reddy and currently serves as Congress in-charge of Palakurti.
She had intended to run in the Palakurti constituency during the last assembly elections, challenging the then-sitting MLA and Minister, Errabelli Dayakar Rao.
However, her plans were revised at the last minute owing to a debate surrounding her Indian citizenship status, which is tied to her NRI heritage. The Congress finally chose to field her daughter-in-law, Yashaswini Reddy, who beat Errabelli Dayakar Rao.
Reddy, who has lived in the United States for many years, is actively involved in community and business activities, most notably as the founder and advisory chair of the Women Empowerment Telugu Association (VETA). She also oversaw other commercial enterprises, including real estate. Later, she returned to Telangana, anxious to serve her hometown of Palakurti and get involved in state politics.
