An FIR has been filed in Bengaluru against Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu for allegedly calling Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi the “number one terrorist of the country”.
On the basis of the complaint, filed at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Bittu, who is also the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, has been booked
Bittu’s contentious comments about Gandhi came on September 15 when he was speaking to the media. “They tried to use Muslims (to divide) but did not succeed and now they are now trying to divide Sikhs. The most wanted people of this country had given statements even before Rahul Gandhi reacted. (Later) even terrorists supported and hailed Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. When such people are supporting him (Rahul Gandhi), then he is the number one terrorist of the country,” he had said.
Bittu, a three-time MP from Congress, quit the party and joined the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
On a different complaint, the High Grounds police have registered a case against Karnataka BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal. According to the FIR, the BJP MLA on September 14, while speaking to the media at Nagamangala, personally attacked Gandhi by questioning his birth origin.
“Rahul Gandhi doesn’t even know to which religion and caste he is born; whether he was born as a Muslim, Christian or a Brahmin. His father is different (someone else) and mother is from Italy. The great grandson (of Jawahar Lal Nehru) is like a country pistol,” he had said
