A big decision has been taken amid the controversy over recruitment in various departments/ministries of the central government under the lateral entry system. The central government has canceled the recruitment through the lateral entry system. On the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Personnel and Training Minister Jitendra Singh has written a letter to UPSC Chairman Preeti Sudan asking her to cancel the recruitment.
It should be noted that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had recently announced recruitment for the posts of Joint Secretary, Director and Deputy Secretary through the Lateral Entry System on 17 August. In which eligible candidates would become senior officers without giving the IAS-PCS exam and work after being appointed in various departments/ministries of the Central Government. But now the Central Government has withdrawn the decision on lateral entry recruitment.

The idea of bringing reservation in lateral entry
There is no reservation in lateral entry recruitment. A political debate had erupted over this. In the letter written by the central government to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), it has been said that according to PM Modi, there is no provision for reservation in lateral entry recruitment. Whereas social justice and empowerment should be taken care of in recruitment. It means that the central government is now considering bringing reservation in lateral entry. Reservation can be brought for OBC/SC/ST in lateral entry.

A big controversy had arisen over the direct recruitment of lateral entry. All opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav had registered their protest after this recruitment came to light. At the same time, the allies of the ruling party along with the opposition were also putting pressure against it. A new debate had started in the bureaucracy with lateral entry. NDA government leaders Chirag Paswan and KC Tyagi were also speaking against lateral entry.
What is lateral entry?
Lateral entry is also called direct recruitment. In this, those people are taken into government service who are very skilled, experienced and qualified. These people are not from IAS-PCS or any government cadre. On the basis of the experience of these people, the government deploys them in the bureaucracy.

On UPSC lateral recruitment, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, “We raised this issue first. BJP people want to end reservation on the pretext of lateral recruitment and are working against the Constitution. They do not want SC-ST community people to sit in the secretariat at any cost, rather these people want them to sit in the toilet. IAS and IPS will be recruited without any examination and reservation. This means that an attempt is being made to recruit people of the Sangh.
