Kolkata:  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday led a protest rally from Moulali to Dorina Square in Kolkata demanding justice for a woman doctor who was allegedly raped and killed at a government hospital last week. Trinamool Congress workers accompanying Banerjee raised slogans demanding capital punishment for the accused.

Mamata Banerjee said that we want the truth to come out, but lies are being spread to mislead people. She said that the nexus between the leftists and the BJP should be exposed. An attempt is being made to hide the truth by spreading fake news on social media. The

trainee woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. A volunteer was arrested in connection with the crime the next day.

A group of about 40 people barged into the hospital in the early hours of Thursday and vandalized the emergency department, nursing unit and medicine store. The mob also damaged CCTV cameras in the government hospital and vandalized the stage where junior doctors were protesting against the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor and demanding security at their workplace.
