Indigo Airlines Women Pilot: As part of its efforts to promote diversity and inclusiveness, airline company IndiGo aims to increase the number of women pilots in its workforce to over 1,000 by next year. The airline, which is expanding its fleet and network, currently has over 800 women pilots. Sukhjeet S Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer of IndiGo, said that the airline is promoting inclusivity on a large scale by working in every field including engineering and flight staff.
Sukhjit S Pasricha told PTI, “We are promoting diversity and inclusiveness in every work area. We adopt a 360-degree approach for this. The number of women in engineering has increased by about 30 percent overall.” According to him, IndiGo has the highest number of women pilots, which are now more than 800. About 14 percent of the company’s pilots are women, while the global average is seven to nine percent women pilots.
“We will cross the 1,000 women pilot mark in a year (by August, 2025),” the chief HR said. The airline, which operates more than 2,000 flights daily, currently has over 5,000 pilots. On Wednesday, IndiGo inducted 77 women pilots for its Airbus and ATR aircraft to celebrate the country’s 77th anniversary of independence.
IndiGo Airlines had 36,860 permanent employees as of March 31, 2024, including 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew. The count included 713 female pilots. It also includes employees from the LGBTQ category.
