Chandigarh: With an aim to showcase Indian Army’s commitment towards environmental protection and the sanctity of the relationship between mother and children, a week-long “Go Green” tree plantation drive was conducted by Western Command from July 22, 2024 at various Military Stations in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi.

The tree plantation drive is being carried out in both military and civilian sectors involving Army personnel, Forest Department, school children, Territorial Army Ecological Battalion and other government agencies. The plantation includes shade trees, fruit trees, medicinal and other varieties of plants.

At Chandimandir Military Station, the tree plantation drive was started by the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar himself planting a sapling, dedicating it to his mother. Following the theme set by the Centre for this year ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, all individuals are being encouraged to ensure environmental protection by planting at least one tree. More than 50,000 trees were planted during the last week. Through this, people have been encouraged to keep the earth green and clean to reduce carbon emissions.

The aim of this initiative is to create awareness among the masses under a holistic approach to make the Earth more livable and ensure environmental security for future generations of mankind.
