Chandigarh, March 16, 2023: INIFD Chandigarh Student designers made the city proud by showcasing at the three major Fashion weeks, New York for the 7th Season and London for the 8th season and Lakme Fashion Week in India, Mumbai for last 34 consecutive seasons
INIFD-LST in association with the High Commission India at London celebrated India Day at London Fashion Week where emerging INIFD Designers presented two shows on February 17. The 1st show was of 40 garments designed on the basic principles of deconstruction. The 2nd show was of 25 exquisite garments designed in the signature fabric of India – Khadi.
INIFD Chandigarh student designer, Gonika Sachdeva showcased her collection “Deconstructivism & Architecture: Commemoration in Couture”, based on Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh at London Fashion Week. The inspiration for Le Corbusier’s master plan has been credited to a number of sources. Its emphasis on ample green space between its roads and buildings drew not only from the Garden City principles requested by the local government but from the architect’s own concept of the Ville Radieuse– albeit with the towering glass skyscrapers replaced by sculptures reflecting Chandigarh’s governmental purpose.
The show was marked by the presence of Honourable High Commissioner Mr. Vikram K Doraiswami, Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Sujit Ghosh and other eminent personalities & International delegates. Post the show the High Commissioner felicitated the emerging INIFD designers at India House, London.
At “Indian Fashion Trunk” during New York Fashion Week, world’s most prestigious fashion week for the 7th Season on February 10 at New York City, the showcase by INIFD designers was a celebration of Fabric of India – Khadi reflecting in the spectacular Collection of 54 garments.
At New York Fashion Week Chandigarh designers showcased 2 extravagant garments using Khadi as a fabric with a balance of tradition and modernity. Vipul Dev, Consul (Press, Information & Culture), Consulate General of India, New York witnessed the Show.
On 9th March, the opening day of ‘Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI Bollywood Actress and Former Miss India Neha Dhupia looked enthralling in INIFD Chandigarh student designer Raman Dageliya’s garment that she presented at the spectacular show INIFD Launchpad at Lakme Fashion Week, from her collection called “Coming from the Roots” that was inspired by the African mud cloth called ‘Bogolanfini’. Indian appliqués from Pipli, Odisha and batik dyes were used for various types of Khadi.
Divyam Kaushal, INIFD Chandigarh Interior Design Student got the opportunity to work with the renowned show directors of the industry at Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI. INIFD presents GENNEXT at Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI to encourage upcoming Gen Next Designers.
Ms. Ritu Kochhar, Corporate Director – INIFD, appreciated INIFD Chandigarh student designers for establishing their hold on all the three major Fashion Weeks of the World.
She said “INIFD with its legacy of 27 years has established a strong global presence and has emerged as one of the leading chains of design Institutes.”
She also said, “I am incredibly proud of our young designers who have created a niche at all the major Fashion Weeks of the world and their work being appreciated by the entire design circle. This season, they created unique designs, using the common thread between the haute and the humble, the “Fabric of Nation” Khadi, displaying our rich Indian cultural heritage blended with western aesthetics. Making the relationship stronger since 2016, the High Commission India at London, INIFD & LST has been fulfilling the promise of bringing Indian handlooms, weaves, art and craft on an international platform for the world to witness and experience the rich textile and handicraft history of India.
It was a glamorous display of beautifully designed Collections by INIFD design students at all the 3 official world-renowned Fashion Weeks.
