22 people sentenced to two years imprisonment in the case of selling fake mark sheets and certificates

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) sentenced 22 private individuals including Kashmir Singh, Surendra Singh, Malkit Singh, Gurpal Singh, Paramjit Singh, Khushwinder Singh, Chander Singh, Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, Baldev Singh son of Shri Mohar Singh, Gurjinderpal Singh, Pankaj Chopra, Hargurnath Singh, Mukesh Kumar Garg, Mandeep Singh, Rajpal Singh, Manjit Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, Balveer Singh, Kewal Singh, Baldev Singh son of Shri Jeet Singh and Jasmat Singh to two year imprisonment with fine in a case related to sale of fake mark sheets and certificates.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case on 30.09.1997. The case was earlier registered under FIR No. 301/1996 at Sadar Police Station, Sri Ganganagar District on the basis of a complaint. It was alleged that the accused had allegedly cheated the complainant by selling him fake/fake mark sheets and certificates of Punjab Secondary Education Board.

The CBI filed a chargesheet against 25 accused on April 21, 1999 and charges were formally framed against the accused in 2003.
After the trial was over, the court convicted 22 accused and sentenced them accordingly. The trial against two accused was abated due to their death while one accused was acquitted by the court as he was a minor.

The conviction was a result of thorough investigation and effective prosecution by the CBI team, in which credible evidence was presented, which was also upheld by the Hon’ble Trial Court.
