
Two workers were killed in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Wednesday, after which Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each for their families. According to the police, the workers who lost their lives in the explosion have been identified as 65-year-old G Pullakutty and 35-year-old J Karthik Eswaran.
Two workers, S Bose (35) and P Manikandan, were also injured in the incident and have been admitted to the Sivakasi Government Hospital. Expressing grief over the incident, Stalin expressed condolences to the bereaved families. In a government statement, the Chief Minister said that he has ordered the officials to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. This financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. The incident took place at a firecracker factory in Malli Utkadai Mayathevanpatti village of Srivilliputhur taluk in Virudhunagar district.
