Expert Critic Reviews:
A film requires good script, good cast, good opening and above all, good critic reviews to make it to the blockbusters. Let’s peek into some critic reviews that might shape the overall ratings of the movie.
The Entertainment Times has given Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety 3.5 stars out of 5 stating it an above average movie. The critic asserts that “Despite the misogynistic nature, Ranjan’s lighthearted approach to counter gender stereotypes in modern relationship makes his take fascinating. The movie has relatable situations which makes it work.”
Nandini Ramnath from Scroll.in writes, “Some directors make Romcoms. Luv Ranjan makes Romcons.” She explains her point by elaborating how it is shown that the “poison is administered by women” in the story of the movie.
Hindustan Times has rated the movie with 1 star out of 5 claiming that this is “perhaps the first misogynist attempts where even a man has been objectified in the process”. The critic tags the movie as a story of a girlfriend and a friend fighting over the “possession” of a man. Further, it asserts that the director wants the audience to believe that Sweety is a gold-digger with gold-digger music playing in the background but there is nothing of that sort in the movie. Moreover, the good thing with “Pyaar ka Punchnama” series was relatability of the instances in the movie. But “Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety doesn’t have that, nor is it funny.”
Full story of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety:
A perfect blend of Drama and Romance, or “Bromance”, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a movie that revolves around the GenX notions of marriage. Initially, we are introduced to Titu (Sunny Nijar) who plays a typical lover boy, searching the perfect love of his life. TituhasSonu (Kartik Aaryan), his childhood friend, who is the Knight in the shining armor for him. After being heart-broken several times, Titu decides to get married in order to put an end to his love sufferings. Sonu is uncertain of his decision and initiates his opposition. Now, enters the supposed “perfect bride” for Titu, Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha). Where romance is blooming between Titu & Sweety, bromance is hindered with glitches.
Titu, as our lover boy, falls in love with the beauty, affectionate behavior and perfect personality of Sweety believing “Meri wali alag hai”. On the other hand, Sonu is confident on his instincts. He believes that there is something fishy as no girl can be flawless. Where Sweety has won hearts, Sonu decides to get deep into the matter. The war begins as love and friendship faces the clash. Too much! It is going to be very interesting to see who is going to win? Love or Friendship? Sonu or Sweety?
As Pyaar ka Punchnama and its sequel made a boost in the film industry, the star cast gained a lot of stardom as well. Director Luv Ranjan brings together Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Nijar as a power-packed team in “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety”. Apart from this star-cast, we have Ayesha Raza and Deepika Amin in the supporting team. Also, Luv Ranjan has brought in a new flavor and spice to the character of Alok Nath and portrayed him as the new age parent. A lot of eyes are gnawing upon the performance of their favorite comic cast once again.
Direction and Music Review of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety:
The Indian writer, director and producer Luv Ranjan holds the direction credits of this movie. Ranjan was the person behind the amazing execution & direction of Pyaar ka Punchnama and Pyaar ka Puchnama 2. He has been appreciated by many critics for his ideas & layouts in all the productions.
Behind the dramatic yet realistic dialogue writing is a perfect duo of Luv Ranjan and Rahul Mody. Besides this, the production of the film is catered by Luv Ranjan, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar.
As propagated, history is made so one can look back to the good & bad times and learn. This movie has engulfed the idea of grabbing as much as they can from the old melodies. The music and songs of this movie are taken from the classic melodies that we have been hearing since decades. Of course, there is a good twist of Swagger tunes to each of them, but the essence remains intact.
From the list, we have, “Dil Chori Sadda Hogaya” (Mind in the background-*Ki Kariye*, *Ki Kariye*) from the chartbuster album Chorni, “Bom Diggy Bom” the new peppy R&B number by Zack Knight and Jasmin Walia; and “Dil Totte Totte Hogaya”. Once again, these songs have flung the minds of masses. But, obviously, legends are made only once and the original numbers are still better than the remixed add-ons. Then there is “Love Mera Hit Hit” from Priyadarshan’s 2009 film Billu. This song couldn’t impress many ears as the female voice, Sukriti Kakkar, seems to be pitching excessively.
Moreover, some new compositions by Arijit Singh, like “Tera Yaar Hoon Main” are also gaining immense popularity. As a whole, the music can be rated average keeping in mind originality and compositions.
Despite the mixed critic reviews, Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety has a lot to offer the audience with more than enough amount of entertainment and the loved cast. It is drama, romance and little strings of comedy all together, bonded in a single thread. The amazing direction, catchy music makes it a one-time watch movie.
